Cherry Pie’s Lineage

The Cherry Pie marijuana strain, also known as Cherry Pie OG, is a cross between two of the most iconic marijuana strainsDurban Poison and Granddaddy Purple (GDP). GDP is an indica cannabis strain with a strong aroma of grape and berry, derived from its Purple Urkle genetics.

Durban Poison is a pure sativa cannabis strain from South Africa that has notes of citrus, pine, and other earthy aromas.

Cherry Pie has gone on to win numerous industry awards due to its enviable genetics. Cherry Pie won third place in the medical sativa category in the 2014 High Times U.S. Cannabis Cup in Denver.

Cherry Pie has been used to produce a variety of new strains through innovative breeding techniques. Black Cherry Pie is a cross between Cherry Pie and Blackberry Kush resulting in an uplifting strain with a woody and blackberry scent.

Cherry Pie has also been combined with the Cookies F2 cannabis strain to produce the Cherry Cookies marijuana strain. This combination produces flower buds with a cherry tartness and a heavy dose of sedation.

The Cherry Pie marijuana strain can grow both indoors and outdoors, preferably in soil.  If grown under the proper conditions, Cherry Pie can grow into a hardy plant that can stand up to disease and pests.

Moreover Cherry Pie takes about eight to nine weeks of flowering time and can produce moderate to high yields. Cherry Pie is a moderately difficult plant to grow. The marijuana strain thrives in warm temperatures between 70 and 80ºF and low humidity levels (40-50% RH) when flowering.

Cherry Pie is vulnerable to stress. Expert growers recommend using organic materials to give the plant the nutrients it needs and cause very little stress. Colder temperatures can reveal brilliant violet colors passed on from its GDP parent.

Cherry Pie can grow up to 78 inches tall and can yield between three to six ounces per square foot planted. Growers may need to consistently trim any fan leaves that are covering any lower branches to increase bud growth.

However Cherry Pie is a clone-only strain, which limits the access to grow this strain to people that can get a Cherry Pie clone. Clone-only strains are selected for their strong characteristics and ability to produce the strain’s unique qualities.

Also if grown properly, Cherry Pie can produce dense buds with forest green leaves, orange pistils, and a heavy layer of trichomes.
